We’re very excited to have Alexander Carson’s film “We Refuse To Be Cold” selected for this year’s Worldwide Short Film Festival in Toronto! As the largest and most competitive short film festival in North America, the WSFF promises great exposure to audiences in Canada’s largest film community. Sandy will be in Toronto to represent WRTBC and to participate in the festival’s great panels and events. If you are in town, come check out this great work!

At the Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association awards at the Hyatt Regency in Calgary on May 12, 2012, Kyle Thomas received the Best Screenwriter Award for Drama Under 30 Minutes! His film Not Far From The Abattoir has now garnered several awards at major international festivals, and we’re very proud to be representing this great work in Cannes later this month! TWO NCC FILMS AT SLED ISLAND!

Calgary’s Sled Island Festival (June 20-23, 2012) will be screening both of North Country Cinema’s 2011 productions in late June! Alexander Carson’s “We Refuse To Be Cold”, and Kyle Thomas’ Not Far From The Abattoir will both screen in competition as part of Sled Island’s Film Program. We are very excited to have two NCC films presented at the same event in our native city of Calgary!

NORTH COUNTRY CINEMA GOES TO CANNES!

We’re very excited to announce that Telefilm Canada will be presenting BOTH of North Country Cinema’s 2011 films at Cannes this year. Alexander Carson’s “We Refuse To Be Cold” and Kyle Thomas’ Not Far From The Abattoir have both been selected for the Not Short On Talent section of Telefilm’s Perspective Canada screenings on May 22 and May 23 at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes.

Kyle, Sandy, and Cameron Macgowan will all be traveling to the south of France to proudly rep these films at the world’s most important film event, and to take in some of what the coming year holds for international cinema. This will be a great opportunity for North Country Cinema to share our work with new audiences, and to make connections within the international film community that will help us grow in the future. Many thanks again to all those who helped make these projects such successes!

5 AMPIA NOMINATIONS FOR NFFTA!

Kyle Thomas’ film Not Far From The Abattoir has received 5 award nominations from the Alberta Motion Pictures Industry Association! As the film’s producers, Kyle and Cameron share a nomination for Best Short, while Kyle is personally nominated for Best Director, Editor, and Screenwriter in the Under 30 Minutes categories. NFFTA‘s lead actress, Mandy Stobo, is also nominated for Best Performance by an Alberta Actress!

The awards ceremony and gala dinner will be held on Saturday May 12 at the Hyatt Regency in Calgary. We are ever-grateful to all our amazing cast and crew who helped make this film such a success!

Alexander Carson’s 2011 film “We Refuse To Be Cold” will be making a stop at the Independent Film Festival Boston later this month! We are very excited to announce two screenings, both at the Somerville Theatre: Saturday April 28 @ 10:00pm, and Sunday April 29 @ 12:15pm. Alexander Carson’s 2011 film “We Refuse To Be Cold” will have its Calgary premiere at CUFF 2012 next month! On Saturday April 21, WRTBC will precede Alex Ross Perry’s new film The Color Wheel at 9:15 pm at the Globe Cinema. If you are in the Calgary area, please come out to see this great work!

BLACK HILLS TRAILER NOW ONLINE

We are very excited to share the trailer for Cameron Macgowan’s new film Black Hills, set for festival release later this year. This production was filmed in the Drumheller area in October 2011 with the generous support of the Alberta Foundation For The Arts. Black Hills is a gothic-western set in the badlands of Alberta, where two outlaws anxiously wait to deliver a cryptic package to their mysterious employer.

The film stars Alex Plouffe, Peter Strand Rumpel & Johnny B. Black Hills is produced by Kyle Thomas, with cinematography by Rhett Miller. See the trailer here:
